Japanese Poetry

When Japanese poetry came into existence it was the foundation of the first books in Japan, it was used as a way to communicate by women and men. There were many kinds of Japanese poetry. Haiku was a form of poetry came from the Renga. Haiku is Japanese poetry that is short in length and has been around the longest. Haiku has been around all these years, and people do still enjoy it.

Another type of Japanese poetry is the Tanka. This poetry is older than the poetry known as Haiku, but not as well known. The Tanka has been a well known type of poetry in Japan for about 1300 years. After special events a Tanka was written about the event. Tanka is longer than the Haiku so it allows the poet to express his or her feelings. Typically the Tanka is written about one's feelings. To be able to write this kind of poetry you have to write something

Another type of Japanese poetry is the Renga. Japanese poetry has changed a lot through the years. The idea of the Renga poetry is that one poet writes a section on their own ideas and the next poet adds the next section. Renga was thought to be a competitive game. If you wanted to play in this game you would have to be fast at thinking with a good sense of humor. Renga poems are longer than other types of Japanese poetry and can be up to 100 verses.
